Solo Exhibition of Ekrem Yalçındağ, the Leading Name of Turkish Contemporary Art, to be realized in Istanbul after 9 Years
Exhibition "Natures," Sevil Dolmacı opens in Istanbul

Sevil Dolmacı Istanbul will bring art lovers together with Ekrem Yalçındağ, one of the pioneers of Turkish contemporary art, with his solo exhibition "Natures", which will take place at
after 9 years. The exhibition will be on view at Sevil Dolmacı Istanbul from February 13, 2024 until March 18, 2024
.

Graduated in 1989 from Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Fine Arts, Ekrem Yalçındağ
is an artist known for his geometric and repetitive patterns. Yalçındağ began his artistic career with Prof. Adem Genç,
and also studied at Prof. Hermann Nitsch's workshop at the Staedelschule in Frankfurt. The artist stands out with his works produced in different
techniques and his unique painting technique.
"Natures" Yalçındağ's solo exhibition "Natures," which will take place after a 9-year hiatus, brings together the artist's works produced in different techniques in the last
period. The "Natures" series, which is among Yalçındağ's prominent
works, will offer viewers the opportunity to discover the artist's evolution
and differentiating techniques.

Yalçındağ's Technique, in her "Natures" series, she creates 'tree traces' that overlap with a network of thin lines that take circular forms
by printing painted wooden boards all over the canvas. Interpreting these traces as traces of life and growth
, the artist brings together seemingly contradictory worlds in his painting. Under the influence of Andy Warhol,
large plant motifs applied as silkscreen prints on the canvas floor
add another dimension to Yalçındağ's works.

Basically, what Yalçındağ does is to overcome the ornamental function (burden) of color through ornament. In this way, a perceptual apparatus emerges in which color remains loyal only to itself, rather than to objects
or surfaces. In other words, the possibilities of
ornament give color an almost absolute freedom. According to Yalçındağ, although it is misperceived in Turkey for various
reasons, ornament is not a complementary element in art, but a personal style in itself.
The artist reminds us that ornament, which has a very long history, was directly transferred to painting
as a work of art with Henri Matisse, and later ornament was used as an autonomous work of art in its own right.
The "Natures" series was first recognized with the exhibition "Seeing the
World Anew" curated by Robert Fleck at Kunstforum Vienna. Afterwards, it took place on the international platform with the exhibitions of the Hermann Nitsch Foundation
at MoMAD Dubrovnik. Most recently, Sevil Dolmacı exhibited in Dubai and attracted great interest
.

The installation of the exhibition was realized in collaboration with artist Ekrem Yalçındağ and Zurich-based Director Dorethea Strauss
. This collaboration added a special depth to the content and presentation of the exhibition.
