NIHAT ODABASI PRESENTS “OBSESSION OF BEAUTY” AT SEVIL DOLMACI GALLERY

For years, Nihat Odabaşı has shaped one of Turkey’s most powerful visual archives through his work in fashion, portrait, and celebrity photography. With his exhibition Obsession of Beauty, the artist invites viewers into a personal universe where beauty is continuously reconstructed and reimagined. Presented at Sevil Dolmacı Gallery’s historic venue, Villa Ipranosyan, from 2–7 June 2026, the exhibition reveals Odabaşı’s iconic portrayals of women, his passionate pursuit of perfection, and his distinctive aesthetic vision developed over the years.

Odabaşı’s visual language does more than capture a face or a body; through light, composition, intervention, and aesthetic construction, it recreates and transforms its subjects. Rather than merely documenting beauty, Obsession of Beautyinvestigates how beauty is produced, manipulated, and ultimately transformed into an obsession.

In the artist’s own words, this series reflects his tendency not to love beauty as it appears before him, but to deconstruct it and rebuild it anew. As such, the works trace not beauty itself, but the ideal of perfection projected onto it and the aesthetic obsession that accompanies it.

A carefully controlled aesthetic sensibility permeates Odabaşı’s images. Imperfections are erased, details are rewritten, and a new form of beauty emerges somewhere between reality and fantasy. Throughout the exhibition, viewers are invited not only to look at photographs, but also to contemplate the desire, manipulation, and aesthetic obsession that lie behind them.
