Ahmet Oran was born in Çanakkale in 1957. Between 1977 and 1980, he studied at the Istanbul Academy of Fine Arts in Prof. Adnan Çoker's studio. He then studied painting, stained glass and graphics in Prof. Carl Unger's studio at the Vienna School of Applied Fine Arts between 1980-1986. In 1987, he graduated from Prof. Adolf Frohner's studio. Oran has held many solo exhibitions in Turkey and abroad and has also participated in group exhibitions. His works have been exhibited in important contemporary art museums such as Kunsthalle Bonn, Istanbul Modern and Lentos Kunstmuseum. He currently lives and works in Istanbul and Vienna. In his abstract paintings, Oran layers the surface of paper or canvas with areas of color. By applying paint with a spatula and tearing this thick texture, he visualizes the moment of action with geometric or lyrical lines. In his works, he creates network structures and continues these structures on the other canvases next to him, creating multi-part compositions on the horizontal plane. The scratch marks left on the canvas create the effect of a wall or an organic object. Oran's abstract paintings do not refer to an objective theme or figurative elements. He reduces his art to the most basic elements of color and form: bright colors, strong lines and smooth stripes.
