On the Trail of Media Arts: A Multi-layered Journey from Analog to Digital

Sevil Dolmacı Gallery is pleased to present an innovative exhibition of international artists pushing the boundaries of art and technology as part of Art Dubai Digital. Media Arts Beyond Analog and Digital features works by artists Peter Kogler, Mischa Kuball, Fabrizio Plessi, Sara Ludy, Can Büyükberber, Ben Cullen Williams, Tuba Elmas, Emre Namyeter, Fırat Engin and Fuseworks, who address the intersection of different practices of artificial intelligence, data visualization and media arts.

The exhibition presents a visual dialog about the development of media arts from past to present, focusing on how forms, symbols and objects have been simplified, changed and interpreted over time. The timeline at the heart of the curation brings together artists who have been working in the field of media arts since the 1980s with younger artists. In this context, it conveys the conceptual and aesthetic transformation of digital art to the audience.

Peter Kogler, Mischa Kuball and Fabrizio Plessi, pioneers of media arts from the 1980s, form the basic structure of the exhibition. Exploring the interplay between light, architecture and social discourse, conceptual artist Mischa Kuball's light boxes establish a dialog with Austrian artist Peter Kogler, who blends architectural elements with media arts. Kogler applies his world-renowned optical design works to one wall of the exhibition space. Fabrizio Plessi, one of the pioneers of media art, has been exploring the spatial dimension of digital media since the 1980s. Using video technology to integrate three-dimensional structures into his works, he explores the illusionistic relationship between reality and the representation of the liquid element, further enhancing this effect with mechanical-electronic reproduction technologies.

Sara Ludy, who works on post-digital and uses simulated natural forms on painting, video and digital forms, bridges the gap between traditional and digital art. The artist presents a unique perspective on the concept of bodily perception in the post-digital world produced with artificial intelligence. Can Büyükberber focuses on the aesthetics of artificial intelligence, integrating new artificial intelligence models into his works and offering innovative perspectives on the evolution of digital art for the future. Ben Cullen Williams uses artificial intelligence as a data collection tool to create nature-inspired compositions, demonstrating the delicate balance between technology and organic forms.

Tuba Elmas brings a new perspective to media archaeology with her neon works. By reusing old typewriters and interpreting the words "future" and "reality" with neon typography, the artist brings together the narratives of the past with the present. Fırat Engin reconstructs the relationship between light art and contemporary art in his neon work. Emre Namyeter creates multi-layered abstract sculptures using his own paints, emphasizing depth and complexity in his works.

Fuseworks aims to explore the boundaries between different disciplines through multimedia installations and performances. By creating new connections between light, space, sound and movement, the artist collective presents immersive and immersive experiences that challenge conventional notions of art.

Sevil Dolmacı Gallery invites you to explore the evolving dialogue between the analog and digital worlds at the fair. Exploring how contemporary artists are interacting with technology and shaping the future of visual narrative, the exhibition reaffirms the gallery's vision of bridging the analog and digital future as part of Art Dubai Digital 2025.
