SİNAN SAÜL'S SOLO EXHIBITION "PARADOX OF PLASTICITY" AT SEVİL DOLMACI ISTANBUL
Sevil Dolmacı Istanbul presents Paradox of Plasticity, a new solo exhibition by contemporary artist Sinan Saül. On view from May 31 to June 30 at Villa Ipranosyan, the show invites viewers to explore the delicate balance between form and void, creation and destruction.
Saül approaches painting not as a refined expression like writing poetry or composing music, but as a primal, instinctive act of catharsis. His work emerges from unfiltered and often contradictory echoes of the unconscious. In this sense, his practice recalls Nietzsche’s assertion that “art is the lie that enables us to bear the truth of life.” Here, art is not rooted in beauty but thrives on tension. The canvas becomes more than just a surface; it transforms into a map of paradoxical plasticity, shaped by inner conflict and the artist’s ongoing search. It is a space in flux, suspended between meaning and meaninglessness, structure and collapse, control and excess.
Opposing forces are central in Saül’s work: creator and destroyer, hero and victim, witness and actor. These dualities do not express suppressed desires, but instead carry the residue of primal memory, historical violence, and internal resonance. His use of black backgrounds goes beyond aesthetics. It suspends the perception of time and space, evoking a place of origin where potential has not yet taken form. In this darkness, the viewer stands at a threshold where the past has already spilled over and the future remains unwritten. Words in various languages intentionally create distance rather than clarity, inviting viewers not to decode but to engage to search, feel, and reflect.
Several key works in the exhibition embody Saül’s existential inquiry. 25.7 bears a heavy presence, both physically and conceptually, offering a site for raw expression and emotional release. Superbeast captures a force not yet tamed by civilization a convergence of destruction and creation. Obelisk, traditionally a symbol of triumph and remembrance, appears fractured and silent, reimagined as a solemn elegy. Achilleús / Hektōr portrays the tragic duality of heroism and sacrifice. Rather than offering clear answers, these works open pathways to deeper questions, unlocking new ways of confronting the complexities of existence.
Sevil Dolmacı Istanbul invites audiences into the striking, contemplative world of Sinan Saül with Paradox of Plasticity. On view from May 31 to June 30 at Villa Ipranosyan, this exhibition calls to those ready to go beyond the familiar to those open to challenging the boundaries of visual and emotional perception.
