A GROUP EXHIBITION OF EIGHT CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS ORGANIZED BY AMERICAN WRITER AND CURATOR BOB NICKAS
Sevil Dolmacı Art Gallery, New York-based curator and writer Bob Nickasorganized by "Mystics of the World Unite" group exhibition May 6-June 17 art lovers on these days. Sergide eight world-renowned contemporary artists; David Adamo, Barry X Ball, Matt Hoyt, Xylor Jane, Davina Semo, Philip Taaffe, Gert & Uwe Tobias and Dan Walsh.
The name of the exhibition comes from Paul Thek’s notebook from 1975 inspired by a sentence he wrote, “Mystics of the World, Unite. Curator and writer Bob Nickas' longtime fascination with this phrase, combined with the charm and mystery of Istanbul, became the starting point for the exhibition.At a time when the world is becoming increasingly disconnected and fast-paced, Nickas' invitation to unite around the mystical and contemplative aspects of art becomes particularly meaningful.
American curator and writer Bob Nickas, who has been actively working since the 1980’s had curated more than 120 exhibitions in the United States and internationally including the “Aperto” exhibition at the Venice Bienalle in 1993. He has also worked as the curatorial adviser. He was the director of the MoMA/PS1 museum between 7 and 7, during which time he organized solo exhibitions by artists such as Lee Lozano, Stephen Shore and Wolfgang Tillmans. Alongside his curatorial works Nickas has a fruitful career as a writer. In 2009, he published the "Painting Abstraction: New Elements in Abstract Painting" which is a reference to the contemporary abstract art that includes the works of 80 international artists. Abstraction: New Elements in Abstract Painting". Nickas is also the founding editor of INDEX Magazine, one of the world's leading art and culture magazines, together with artist Peter Halley.. His articles have been published in Artforum International and many other international art publications.
The exhibition will feature works by eight contemporary artists, most of them sculptors, each offering a unique perspective on the mystical and enigmatic qualities of art. Through reflection and interaction with these works, visitors will be able to better understand themselves, the world and each other.
His paintings were originally created by the Neo-Geo movement names like Peter Halley and Ashley Bickerton and Philip Taafe, whose name has been associated with the appropriation art. Taafe has a distinctive style that defies categorization. He uses a unique combination of printmaking, collage and painting techniques to create images that evoke the formal and chromatic density of different cultures, such as Islamic miniatures.For this exhibition, three paintings by Taaffe, one of which is inspired by Istanbul, especially Byzantium, are presented to the audience.
Dan Walsh is a painter who creates abstract works that play with color, form and repetition. His paintings often have a serene quality, inviting the viewer to contemplate subtle variations and nuances. Walsh's works are in MoMA, the Art Institute of Chicago; Jumex Collection, Mexico
City and the Musée d'art Moderne et Contemporain in Geneva.
David Adamo is known for his sculptures that explore the concepts of weight and gravity in his work, often using simple materials such as wood or stone.His work often has an abstract quality and is both playful and thought-provoking. which stands out in this aspect
Sculptor Barry X Ball is an artist who works with traditional techniques such as marble carving, but also uses modern technologies such as 3D scanning and 3D printing to create his works. His work explores ideal beauty and the human form, as well as the intersection of technology and art. Producing works almost as perfect as Renaissance sculptures, Ball emphasizes perfection and the quality of the material. Ball, who previously produced the solid gold portrait sculptures of Pope Jean-Paul II and Prince Albert of Monaco in 8 years, has also created portraits of many figures from the world of politics and art. Ball's "Portrait of the Artist" sculpture made of Mexican onyx will be presented to art lovers. Barry X Ball's works are included in many public collections such as the Hammer Museum and the San Francisco Museum of Art. Ball's works are also included in the personal collection of artist Damien Hirst.
Matt Hoyt creates intricate and delicate sculptures using commonly found objects and everyday materials. His work displays a deep appreciation for meticulously crafted detail and precision.
Xylor Jane is a painter whose work often features intricate mathematical patterns and vibrant colors as a painter. His paintings have a meditative quality and invite the viewer to get lost in the subtleties of his compositions.
Davina Semo is known as a sculptor working with industrial materials such as steel and concrete, creating bold and often monumental sculptures that explore the relationships between people, architecture and the environment.
Gert and Uwe Tobias twin brothers on the other hand makelarge-scale productions involving a variety of materials and techniques, including printing, drawing and painting. Their work often has a mysterious quality, often incorporating elements of mythology and folklore.
Mystics of the World Unite invites viewers to slow down, reflect and connect with the mystical qualities of contemporary art.
