Nevin Aladağ was born in Van, Turkey in 1972 and moved to Germany with his family in 1973. Between 1993 and 2000, she studied at the Sculpture Department of the Munich Academy of Fine Arts. She has a diverse portfolio of sculpture, video, performance, photography and site-specific installations. Aladağ states that her experiences growing up in Germany led her to think about new languages, associations and displacements, often crossing social and other boundaries through metaphors and similar approaches. She often uses materials such as carpets, fabrics, curtains and mirrors in her works, addressing social and political issues such as identity formation, migrant life and cultural dynamics within changing social values. Aladağ has participated in many artist residency programs and has received awards such as the Ernst-Rietschel Art Prize (for Sculpture) and the George Maciunas Award.
