Mischa Kuball (b. 1959, Düsseldorf) is a conceptual artist who has been working in public and institutional spaces since 1977. Using light as his primary medium, he examines architectural environments, sociocultural structures, and political discourses, often reinterpreting their monumentality and historical significance. Through participatory projects, he blurs the boundaries between public and private spheres, creating a space for dialogue among the viewer, the artist, and the surrounding context.
Since 2007, Kuball has been a Professor of Public Art at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne, and between 2006 and 2008 he taught Media Art at the University of Arts and Design / ZKM in Karlsruhe. He became a member of the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences and the Arts in 2015, and in 2016 he was awarded the German Light Award.
