Daniel Firman

Daniel Firman was born in Bron, France in 1966. After studying at the Beaux-Arts in Saint-Étienne and Angoulême, he became highly interested in sculpture and the work of Robert Morris and Bruce Nauman. Conceived as “system environments”, his works are created using a variety of techniques and processes (performance, casting and recycling), combining chance and design, body and mind, suspension of time and movement. The artist's interest in body physics and energy, in movement and its relationship to space, is reflected in his sculpture work, in which the figure is a recurring theme. Caught up in choreographic and narrative momentum, it is treated realistically. But the face of each “character” is hidden, so that anyone can relate easily. Daniel Firman sees the human body as the interface of the individual, the vector of its presence and action in a world that is both ordinary and changing. His work is regularly the subject of solo and group exhibitions. He has exhibited in France and many other European countries, as well as in America and Asia. He took part in the Venice Biennale in 2009.
